MISC. STUFF

Here you will find a variety of links, for both the trucking industry and other things that may prove interesting and or useful. They consist of anything from personal sites of drivers to where to get a good deal on a new computer. The new computer stuff is for more advanced users though, it is a link to a site for the more technical-oriented types.

Something not listed? Contact the webmaster and we will see what we can do about it.

All links will open in separate windows.

Pricewatch- Good source for computers, software, etc. Site for retailers to post prices on. Everything from complete(minus the monitor)systems to parts to build your own.

CNET- Downloads, all sorts of information; hardware and software reviews;has alot of information for web design/authoring as well.

Microsoft-For the windows users. Keep the system(s) up to date.

CompTIA-Certification; A+, Network+, LINUX+. For those interested in certification information.

InformIT-Again, lots of information, books, etc. Basically if the IT/IS arena interests you, this is a good site to check out.

W3C -Organization that sets the standards for web formats (HTML,XHTML,etc.). Very informative and useful information can be found here. Also have some programs for cleaning up HTML code. This site can also validate HTML pages and CSS documents as well.

Helpdeskonline- Computer problems? Hardware troubles? Try this site. It is a free service, and probably will be able to answer any questions or resolve any problems you may be experiencing.

The Trucker's Place- information and links to various trucking related sites, also has listings of trucking companies.

MP3.COM-Alot of free mp3s, from just about every artist/style there is.

MapQuest-Driving directions, traffic reports, etc. Turn by turn directions if you want!

Copernic-The ultimate search tool. Tired of using the standard search engine sites? Don't want to go through 20,000 hits? Try this software. Utilizes the major search engines but only returns the results YOU specify; i.e. you can search for exact phrases and only the sites that match your query are returned. Too many other features to list. Standard version retails for around $30 USD, small price to pay to find exactly what you are looking for.

LINUX/UNIX/BSD

There are alot of Linux/Unix sites out there, and it would take way too much time and space to list them all here. There isn't any preference as far as distributions go, this is more a starting point for those interested in learning more about Linux, or looking for leads to find something more specific.

(For the more adventurous...)

SuSE-Very nice distribution. Easy to install and configure, supports the majority of hardware available.

Red Hat-Another fine distribution. This is one of the premier distributions, very popular.

LinuxCentral- Retailer of almost everything Linux.

Debian - Again, a great Linux distribution.

Linux.org- Linux site, very useful for newbies and experienced users.

FreeBSD-Free version of BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution) Unix Operating System.

SourceForge-Literally thousands of software projects can be found here. Open Source. Even some Windows projects.

OpenBSD-One of the more secure versions of the BSD OSs. Like all of those listed in this section it is free to download, but you would be better off buying anyone of these because of the extra documentation, technical support comes with most purchased versions, and just alot easier to go to the store and buy it.
